Did you ever see a sign that you just had to check out?
Most people nowadays when they hear”Oak Island” are thinking about the historic Oak Island in Canada where the famous “money pit” allegedly holds a great treasure. But there is another Oak Island. This one’s in North Carolina down at the mouth of the Cape Fear River and they also have a treasure. It’s called Bar-B-Que House and it’s a treasure you can eat!
We discovered this place a few days ago and have eaten there three times already.
The first time we had dinner, I had the ribs and they were outstanding. The bones actually pulled right out of the rib meat. They were so tender and moist. Covered with the sweet house sauce, they just sat there on the plate calling to me. I answered the call in minutes and devoured them. That’s when I found they had been laying there on top of half a smoked chicken. Could life get any better?
Yes, it could. The chicken was so well done I loved it. And along with the food came two super tasty sides. I had the roasted corn on the cob and baked beans. The corn was roasted with a light brushing of garlic butter and the beans were right off the smoker.
My wife loves good brisket. She has eaten it twice now and swears it’s up there with the best in the culinary world. We both love the special honey butter they provide with the hush-puppies that come along with just about every meal. It’s a mixture of butter, honey and cinnamon and maybe a touch of brown sugar. Wow, it’s a great addition to your meal.
In addition to the super good food, the atmosphere is just the right combination of friendliness and casual dining that instantly made us feel “at home.” The manager and the waitresses were all as nice as could be. The service was excellent considering I was super thirsty and the waitress filled my drink three times, each time with a smile.
They also have a location in Surfside, NC and also in North Myrtle Beach down in South Carolina. All the info you need is on their website Bar-B-Que House.
They advertise themselves as “the best barbecue on the beach” and I, for one, think they are right. If you get a chance, and you’re close enough to drive there, visit one of the locations and taste it for yourself.
